Starting out muskie and Northern pike fishing is hard. I know when I first started muskie fishing it was hard to find what I needed. From new muskie fishing lures at Thorne Bros and Rollie and Helens to used muskie fishing lures on eBay, it was a jungle out there looking for baits and trying to figure out what I needed. Here is a small list of some of the tackle I have for muskie and Northern pike fishing: Of course a few Grunts, Suick, Cisco Kid, Sledge, Cowgirls, Anything Muskie Mania, Grandma, Jake, Magic Maker, Bobbie bait, Stalker, Anything Rapala, Novak Glide baits, Weagles, Hawg Wobbler, Manta, Bull Dawg, Squirelly Burt, Believer, Killer Eal, Super Shad Rap, Johnson Silver Minnow, Dare Devil. These are just a few items you can put in your tackle box. Don't forget to get a big tackle box too. My largest is a Lakewoods tackle box. It weighs about 75lbs and still has some room left in it. Other suggestions are a good reel like an Abu Garcia or go to the Shimano 400b or Calcutta TE400 if you have the money and get heavy line like Power Pro 80lb-100lb with a good St. Croix rod. And don't forget a net! Frabill is the way to go. The fish never needs to come out of the water and if you can trap the handle under one of your seats one person can handle a 50+ inch muskie in the net while it is in the water. And last...Catch and release!! I want my son and daughter to catch a few someday. Simple rule for catch and release: muskie first, muskie first, and then muskie first. If the muskie is ok, take a picture otherwise, muskies always come first. Release in the water or in your net if need be. You can always catch your first or 411 th muskie for a picture later. So, if the old girl looks like she needs to go home to stay alive get her back in the water ASAP so another musky hunter can catch her again.
